Year 1

Welcome to Year 1

Autumn Term 2021

We are a class of 29 children, with two class teachers, Mrs Fossett and Mrs Evans. We have two teaching assistants that help us as well called Mrs Berry and Miss Crowley.

This term, we are being Superheroes! We planned the work that we wanted to do and used our characters, Ambitious Anwen, Healthy Hywel, Global Gethin, Creative Cariad and Digi Dec to help us. We will be looking at what we need to be healthy like Hywel, investigating materials and their properties to make a Superhero cape,  finding out what we need to do to become a Superhero and reading Supertato and Superworm to help us with our writing.

Welcome video

Our topic hook this term was "If I was an architect I would...". The children came up with the idea of looking at houses from the past and comparing them from around the world, building a den to play in, to make maps and direct people through and to look and design palaces, zoos and aquariums.

We have a builders shop role play and a well stocked construction area for the children to engage with this topic.

Make sure you are signed up to SeeSaw to see what we are up to in class and hear your child talking about their work. If you don't already have one then see me for a code to get you logged on!

This term we have read Michael Rosen's book 'We're going on a Bear Hunt'. We looked at a bears diet and Healthy food, making caves and songs, retelling the story using the Pie Corbett method and lots of Ambitious puzzles and problem solving. Our excellent work is displayed outside the class in the heart space.

We enjoy practising our number skills in our busy bee time.

We use digital technology like ipads and beebots to aid our learning.

We are fit and know how to keep our bodies and minds healthy.

We practise our letter formation, word building and reading skills independently:

We use our beautiful school grounds and outside areas:

We are creative in our thinking and working:
